Lutfur Rahman was born in Sylhet, Bangladesh, and grew up in Tower Hamlets. He attended local schools and later pursued a degree in law, becoming a solicitor in 1997. His early experiences shaped his lifelong commitment to justice and equality.
His political journey began in 2002 when he was elected councillor for Spitalfields and Banglatown. He became Tower Hamlets’ first directly elected Mayor in 2010 and returned to leadership in 2022 under the Aspire Party banner, dedicated to representing local communities.
Under his leadership, Tower Hamlets has seen progress in housing, education, and social welfare. His initiatives have focused on improving lives through opportunity, empowerment, and accountability.
